Council chief sparks fury after issuing stay-at-home plea from the Maldives

A COUNCIL chief sparked fury after she issued a stay-at-home plea — from the Maldives.

Angie Dale urged locals in Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s Richmond constituency to “play their part” and not travel unless “absolutely necessary”.

She said: “The number of Covid cases is rising dramatically every day and we haven’t reached the peak yet.

“So it is vitally important that people stay local.”

But she was over 5,000 miles away enjoying the Indian Ocean on the island of Kudahuvadhoo.

Cllr Dale, 50, who flew out with hubby Richard, 50, and two pals just after Christmas had been posting holiday snaps.

Nigel Stevens, landlord of the Wyvill Arms in Leyburn, Yorkshire Dales, said: “Why not stay at home or just say nothing?

“It is insulting to those whose businesses have been closed for most of the past year.”
