LOCKED down Brits spent an extra £2billion on booze this year — but £47million less on deodorant.
Supermarkets reported a massive spike in sales of “sin products” such as alcohol, tobacco and processed meat.
But they also saw a dramatic fall in sales of personal grooming items such as deodorant, hairstyling products, lipstick and toothbrushes.
Lager sales were up £792million — including a 40 per cent lift for Corona — as supermarkets cashed in on pubs and restaurants closing.
Wine sales rose by £717.4million and spirits saw a surge of £566million.
Meanwhile, rolling tobacco saw an increase in sales of £684million and cigarettes £287million.
Brits also bought £439million more meat such as bacon and sausages this year than they did in 2019.
But the stats, compiled by retail analysts Nielsen for The Grocer magazine, also found that the cosmetics industry was left £183million worse off by the pandemic.
Sales of deodorant fell by £47million, hair products by £37.5 million and toothbrushes by £28.5million.
