ANTI-VAX yobs have accused a mother of using her daughter as a “lab rat” during a furious protest outside a Covid jab centre.
Grace Baker Earle, 15, has who uses a wheelchair since she caught Covid-19, had just been vaccinated when she was confronted by the demonstrators in Cardiff.
Her mother Angela has now told of the “horrible and “incredibly intimidating” ordeal.
A 44-year-old protestor approached her as she was getting her daughter’s wheelchair into their car.
Angela told the BBC: “I said my daughter is using a wheelchair because of Covid,” Ms Baker-Earle said.
“A protestor said: ‘She’ll have immunity, you shouldn’t be getting the vaccine since you have natural immunity. You shouldn’t be using her as a lab rat’.
“It was incredibly unpleasant.”
Her car was soon surrounded by 15 protestors before a steward came and checked the pair were safe.
Grace said the incident had “hit a spot” because of how much catching the coronavirus had changed her life.
She had fallen ill with pneumonia last November – but when she contracted the coronavirus this year she developed Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).
ME, also known as Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a long-term illness with a wide range of symptoms. The most common symptom is extreme tiredness.
Grace said: “I think I was sad more than anything because it’s something I still live with, it takes up every second of my day.
“I was excited to have it done – to have people tell you as you come out that what you’re doing is wrong and to have people invading your personal space, it wasn’t nice.”
ME is most likely to affect women and the age groups that are most susceptible to the illness are teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 and people in their early 20s to mid-40s.
Angela added: “People were so dismissive of such a serious thing we are dealing with, which makes my blood boil.
“There are 12-year-olds going down there to be faced with that – a whole line of people, it is disgusting.
“Now she has to use a wheelchair to go more than 50 yards, and has an extremely elevated heart rate.
“It has been life changing for Grace, we are hoping she will get better. This is all off the back of Covid in November.”
