Trust Your Instincts
A mother is urging parents to trust their instincts after her GP dismissed her four-year-old daughter's symptoms as fake, only for her to be diagnosed with cancer a week later.
Almost Missed Diagnosis
Rebecca Herbert's daughter, Summer, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in April 2022 after experiencing unexplained symptoms and bruising easily.
Listen to Your Gut
Rebecca recalls how her concerns were brushed off by the GP, who advised her to give Summer Calpol and accused the young girl of faking her symptoms. It wasn't until Rebecca took matters into her own hands that Summer's condition was properly diagnosed.
Celebrating Life
After two years of grueling chemotherapy, Summer finished her treatment in June and had a joyous celebration to mark the milestone, being treated like a princess after enduring hair loss and missed school days.
Emotional Journey
Despite the challenges, Summer remained resilient and positive throughout her treatment, serving as an inspiration to her family and others facing similar battles.
Encouraging Awareness
Rebecca now advocates for parents to be proactive in getting unusual symptoms checked and to trust their instincts when it comes to their children's health.
